Course summary

The course is centered on the concept of revolutions in early modern and modern Europe. A key feature of the course will be to explore the significance of events, individuals and beliefs and their influence on behaviours, actions and changes in the past. Essentially how the rulers and ruled responded to social, religious, economic and political change and either adapted peacefully and slowly working within the existing framework or rapidly and aggressively fundamentally changing the existing systems. It will foster key historical skills of cause, consequence, significance, change and continuity and historical interpretation. This will help you to make links between key world events of the past 400 years and your own environment, empowering you to critically evaluate current systems and societies in order to offer alternatives to many fundamental questions which exist today.
