Technically Religious Studies is not just a ‘subject’ but really a ‘field of study.’ This means it’s an area that is studied from a number of different perspectives and so requires those who study it to be familiar with a wide range of academic skills and you will develop skills of evaluation, critical analysis and expression. It also provides you with useful knowledge and understanding about people’s beliefs and thought processes. To study religion could mean that you will develop skills from a variety of subjects such as history, sociology, anthropology, theology, philosophy, science, and psychology. Each subject has a unique way of studying religion, offers a very different perspective and so brings new knowledge and understanding about this enormous aspect of human life, and has considerable value to many professions such as law, journalism, medicine, social work and politics.
