In the AQA Biology course, students will study the following topics: • Topic 1: Biological Molecules • Topic 2: Cells • Topic 3: Organisms Exchange Substances with their Environment • Topic 4: Genetic Information, Variation and Relationships between Organisms • Topic 5: Energy Transfers in and Between Organisms • Topic 6: Organisms Respond to Changes in their Internal and External Environments • Topic 7: Genetics, Populations, Evolution and Ecosystems • Topic 8: The Control of Gene Expression Assessment is in the form of two 2 hour papers which are each worth 35% of the total marks and one 2 hour paper accounting for the remaining 30% of the total marks for the A level. All three papers assess content from the topics studied as well as relevant practical skills. Paper 3 includes critical data analysis and an essay question.
Grade 6 in GCSE Biology or Combined Science, dependent on qualification taken. Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics is desirable.
