Course summary
Students study engaging topics including politics, immigration, media, film and literature, to gain a thorough understanding of the rich, diverse culture and history of French speaking countries. The language and grammar skills taught, which build directly on GCSE study, will allow students to speak and write in French with a high level of fluency and accuracy. Students will also develop their listening and reading skills to summarise, translate and analyse texts effectively. This course is ideal for students who are curious about life in other countries and want to equip themselves with highly transferable, employable skills such as autonomy, resourcefulness, creativity, critical and analytical thinking, a global outlook and cognitive, linguistic and cultural flexibility. French is the language of international relations and diplomacy, spoken in five continents and is a good base for learning other languages. Students will have a weekly 1:1 lesson with the experienced, well-qualified French Assistant. Students are expected to keep up-to-date with current affairs in France, undertake extra listening practice and to develop independent research skills.
