The BTEC Sport course studies either the practical application or the vocational context of a range of topics relating to sports performance, including training, coaching, fitness testing and psychology. The course also develops a scientific understanding of factors relating to sports performance through topics that look at areas such as anatomy and physiology. There are two options for study: • The Extended Certificate, which is equivalent in size to one full A level • The Diploma, which is equivalent in size to two full A levels The course is delivered through a combination of practical and theoretical elements and students will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic work-place situations, activities and demands. These situations give the students the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need in order to prepare them for employment in a related career. We expect that students have a keen interest in many different aspects of sport, and will follow sporting developments. We expect that students are actively participating in sports either for a school team or outside of school as certain modules require sporting performance to be analysed.
