Physics A level is ideal for students who are intrigued by the fundamental questions about our Universe. It is the branch of science that is concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. Physics focuses on solving problems, from the microscopic to the macroscopic. The course is delivered by studying both theoretical and applied topics and the students are required to complete a range experiments to demonstrate their competence in practical skills. This course develops students’ skills in a variety of research, mathematical and problem solving tasks. In addition to the study of Pure Physics, an additional module is chosen by the students to engage their interest in a more specialised area of Physics including Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Engineering and Electronics. Students will develop their understanding of how Physics helps society to make decisions about scientific issues through their appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of scientific methods and provides an ideal grounding of transferrable skills for further study or employment. Career Pathways – Material Sciences – Engineering – Medicine – Astrophysics – Computing – Finance – Research and nanotechnology – Sports and games technology – Robotics – Renewable energies
