Course summary

A level Graphic Communication enables students to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of graphic communication media, processes and techniques using traditional and new media. Students should choose this subject as a rigorous introduction to the approaches used practically and as areas that are explored in the graphic communications industry. Students will explore drawing for different purposes, in addition to relevant images from art, craft and design from different times. They will demonstrate an understanding of the function, meanings, styles and content of graphic work for the intended audience. Study of typography and concepts will be used in responding to a brief. Areas of study will include communication graphics, illustration, advertising, packaging and branding and interactive media (including website and app design). They will then begin developing independent themes and approaches for their ‘Personal Investigation'. How you'll be assessed

Component 1 The Personal Investigation Independent Project chosen by student which shows development from an initial concept to a final realisation. Supported by written study approximately 3,000 words. Component 2 External Assignment Exam assessment is an externally set assignment which gives a variety of different starting points for students to select one question to respond to. Assessment Component 1 – Portfolio of work (60%) Component 2 – Exam of 15 hours (40%)
