
To develop knowledge and understanding of a broad range of topics relating to fitness, health & sports coaching. Consists of 4 Units. 3 units of study are Mandatory and 1 is an Optional unit. Unit 1 (Mandatory): Anatomy and Physiology. Explores how the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory and energy systems function. Assessed in a 90 minute written exam. Marked externally. Unit 2 (Mandatory): Fitness training for health, sport and well-being. Explores client screening, lifestyle assessment and fitness training methods to improve health & well-being. Assessed in a written task which is set and marked externally. Unit 3: (coursework): Professional development in the sports industry. Explores the knowledge and skills required for different career paths in the sports industry. Internally assessed coursework. The final Unit is Unit 6: Sports psychology – This unit looks at how personality, motivation and levels of competition effect sports performance. Internally assessed coursework.
Grade 4 or above in 5 X subjects at GCSE, including GCSE English Language, Mathematics & Combined Science. Students should have a keen interest in sport and fully participated during PE lessons in Key Stage 4.
