Course summary

A-Level Geography gives students the opportunity to engage critically with the major global issues shaping both today and tomorrow. In physical Geography, students explore the water and carbon cycles, coastal environments and tectonic hazards—developing the understanding needed to tackle threats to global human security. In human Geography, students examine how to regenerate deprived areas and respond to global challenges such as China’s rise, Middle Eastern conflict and human rights issues. Geography is the ideal subject for anyone interested in current affairs, the natural world or politics or a genuine desire to make the world a better place. It pairs well with Biology, Sociology, History and Business and builds highly valued skills including critical thinking, data analysis and extended writing. As Geography focuses on real-world challenges that affect millions, it has excellent career pathways. A-Level Geography can lead to roles in ambitious, high paying sectors such as politics, international development, town planning, environmental management and global organisations such as the United Nations. Its global outlook also makes it a great choice for students seeking careers that involve travel.
