A Level Chemistry will give you an exciting insight into the contemporary world of chemistry. It covers the key concepts of chemistry and practical skills are integrated throughout the course. Using a combination of academic challenge and practical focus you will learn about chemistry in a range of different contexts and the impact it has on industry and many aspects of everyday life. You will learn to investigate and solve problems in a range of contexts. The four modules taken in the first year cover practical skills, the foundations of atoms, bonds and chemical changes, the energetics of chemical reactions and an introduction to organic (carbon-based) chemistry. The second year fosters a deeper appreciation of chemical energetics, organic chemistry and quantitative analyses. Chemistry is required for those applying to study, medicine, biochemistry, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary science and many more. It is also a suggested subject for many other degrees. As a Chemistry department we have supported students through successful applications to many of these courses at Russell Group universities and otherwise. At BurntwoodSixth Form we aim to motivate students to achieve above and beyond their potential through outstanding subject knowledge, inspiring teaching and supported by fantastic practical facilities.
At least 5 level 9-4 grades at GCSE with a level 6 in Mathematics and a level 6 in Chemistry or 6-6 in Combined Science.
