Chemistry
Denbigh School

Course summary
You would be suitable for this course if you wish to study an exciting and varied science which also combines other areas of science such as Physics and Biology as well as Mathematics. You should be interested in atomic structure, trends and patterns in the periodic table, organic chemistry, energetics, kinetics, the contemporary application of Chemistry, as well as enjoying practical investigations. A-Level Chemistry is a significant step up from GCSE, hence independent study, regular retrieval practice, and practicing exam techniques are key for achieving strong grades. This course combines well with other Science based courses. Chemistry has a strong mathematical component, so chemists are highly valued for their numeracy skills. You also need practical skills such as processing results, writing methods, writing risk assessments and referencing as well as problem-solving, analytical skills and logical reasoning. A-Level Chemistry is required subject for chemical engineering and as an entrance for most higher education health science courses such as medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, biomedical sciences, pharmacy and biochemistry. It is a requirement for many laboratory-based positions in science organisations, industry-based apprenticeships, or university courses in chemistry or applied chemistry.
