Art & Design enables students to explore a range of two- or three-dimensional approaches to their studies, either as freestanding or related experiences. They will be able to explore a wide range of techniques and materials, including drawing and painting, textiles, photography, illustration and more. Students will use art and design practice to develop ideas through sustained investigations and exploration, selecting and using materials, processes and resources, identifying and interpreting relationships and analysing methods and outcomes. They will also be introduced to a range of art styles and artists, and will analyse the artists’ work, methods, meanings and contexts. All will evaluate the influences on their own work of such study. There is an expectation that students develop research skills enabling them to write an essay of explanation related to the practical aspects of their course.
5 x GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, plus a Grade 6 in GCSE ART
