A-Level Media Studies will enable you to develop as both a critic and producer of media texts. You will study a broad range of media forms, including music videos, advertising, video games, radio, TV dramas, newspapers, social media, as well as the film industry. When studying the various media, you will engage with key media concepts: audience, representation, media language and media industries. In doing so, you will develop an understanding of key media theories by the likes of Barthes, Levi-Strauss, Todorov and Hall. The course is designed to give you a critical understanding of the media and their role in society, culture and politics - both historically and currently. You will use the digital video equipment in one of our three Media Suites to produce a cross-media product, including a music video and a website, for the coursework element of the course (30% of the A-Level). The course offers opportunities to exploit the wide range of media resources available in London, including trips to the British Film Institute.
