Course summary

Sociology is the study of society and social action. In year 1, Sociology consists of the following topics; ‘Families and Households’, ‘Education’ and ‘Research Methods’. Students will also learn how to apply their knowledge of research methods to topics in education, this is called ‘Methods in Context’. In year 2 we offer units in ‘Beliefs in Society’, and ‘Crime and Deviance’, including sociological theories and methods. Students take 3 exams in June of the second year and there is no coursework to be written. Students are well supported and have the opportunity to extend their learning through study days. This course will help you to develop a critical understanding of the world around you, and give you a chance to express your own informed opinion.

Entry requirements

Five Level 9-4 grades including a Level 5 in a humanities subject
