Course summary
A-Level PE covers several key topical areas/themes. You are required to learn about parts of the body and how they work, training methods to improve sporting performance, biomechanics, theories on learning practical skills and practice, personality differences and goal setting and the emergence of sport through history, as well as topics on ethics and how technology has developed within the sporting world to improve performance and media influences. As well as having a passion for sport, the key skills that a successful student would need include practical competency in a chosen sporting activity, extended writing and analysis skills, and a basic understanding of physics, sociological and psychological theories. Studying this course will allow you to pursue career opportunities in the sport and leisure management field, sports science industry, physiotherapy and other health related careers. It is beneficial for students to have completed GCSE PE or an equivalent Sport qualification. This course combines well with many subjects particularly the Sciences and aspects of the Social Science programme.
