The A level Drama and Theatre Studies course explores how theatre is created from the viewpoint of the actor, director, playwright and designer. Students study a total of five plays over the two years, two of which they will perform for an audience. In year 12 they will take part in a series of practitioner workshops and perform a reinterpretation of an extract using the techniques of either an influential practitioner or recognized theatre company along with developing a creative log tracking their decisions and ideas. They will also practically explore their first set text in preparation for the written examination in year 13. In year 13, they will use their knowledge developed from year 12, to create a devised performance from a stimulus as well as performing an extract from a script. Students will then go on to explore their second set text and possibilities for staging an extract from ‘His dark Materials’ through a series of practical workshops in preparation for the written examination. Throughout the course, students will attend a number of theatre trips in the evening as well as participating in workshops led by industry professionals.
At least 5 level 9-4 grades at GCSE with English Language and any Arts subject at Level 4 or above.
