This exciting course will develop your creative skills in Textiles. By experimenting with a varied range of Textile media approaches and techniques including photography, you will build a varied portfolio and develop, record and critically evaluate your work in journals, sketchbooks and worksheets. You will be introduced to a variety of experimental techniques which will allow you to explore different processes. You will gain awareness of both traditional and new technologies, by exploring relevant images, artifacts and resources relating to a range of Art and Design themes. You will gain awareness of the elements of Textile Design, such as shape, colour, texture, pattern, harmony, contrast and/or repetition and an understanding of a variety of Textile methods. You will also learn relevant working vocabulary and specialist terminology. Coursework completed in Y12 accounts for 60% of the final grade and there is a practical exam in Y13 worth the remaining 40%. Unlike DT Textiles, there is no formal written exam. Students are able to use equipment from the other VA & DT disciplines such as photography, 3D design, graphics and textiles. We have many links with industry, a range of visiting practitioners and opportunities to explore the many cultural links the city has to offer in their visual research. Our Alumni have gone on to further their education at leading universities; such as University of the Arts London, London College of Fashion and Central St Martins; to study diverse courses ranging from Fashion Design, Fashion styling, Costume design and Architecture.
At least 5 level 9-4 grades at GCSE including level 4 in Design and Technology, Art or Photography. In some level 4 cases, work may be reviewed by the staff for suitability to the A-Level course.
