Course summary

Is crime really on the increase in modern Britain? Are people influenced by what they see and read in the media? Should we care about homeless people and those who live below the poverty line? Why are people prejudiced and hold racist and sexist views? Is Britain really fair and do we really get equal opportunities? Should private schools be abolished? These are just some of the interesting questions we ask in Sociology, which definitely change the way you think and see the world. Course Content The topics covered in the course include the analysis of many social issues, including; • Racism, and prejudice. • Poverty and inequality. • Crime, deviance, and criminality. • Media bias. • Globalisation. • The role of religion. • Culture and identity. • Methods of social research. • Sociological theories such as feminism, Marxism and post-modernism. Opportunities and Experiences in Sociology • Debates with political figures. • Visits to local universities and law enforcement agencies.
