Course summary

Studying Government and Politics will provide you with an understanding of how UK political systems work and how it is linked to contemporary concerns and events. The course offers a broad choice of topics covering political issues in the UK, political ideologies and global politics. A keen interest in debate, discussion and keeping up with current affairs will be essential. We want you to arrive with your opinions and be ready to be challenged. COURSE CONTENT: · Paper 1 - UK Politics & Core - 33.3% of total paper's marks · Political Participation, students will study: democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media. · Core Political Ideas, students will study: conservatism, liberalism, socialism. · Paper 2: UK Government & Non Core Ideology - 33.3% of total paper's marks · UK Government, students will study: · the constitution, parliament, Prime Minister and executive, relationships between the branches. · Optional Political Ideas, students will study: feminism · Paper 3 Global Politics - 33.3% of total paper's marks · Theories of Global Politics, sovereignty and globalisation, global governance: political and economic, global governance: human rights and environmental, power and developments, regionalism and the European Union

Entry requirements

Grade 4 in Maths, Grade 5 in English Language, Grade 6 in a Humanities Subject
