
Photography is one of the most important and influential means of modern communication in social, commercial, journalistic and scientific contexts. It is used to convey personal identity, as well as being applied in the creative process across art, craft and design. The A Level course will develop students creative, intellectual and practical skills. COURSE CONTENT: Year 12: In the first term of the course, students will learn new techniques and experiment with more traditional processes, to explore a theme. Learning the fundamentals of photography will be a key aspect at the start of the course. As students develop their knowledge and range of skills, a greater level of independence will be required to explore themes in a more personal and unique way. Students will devise their own theme for a Personal Investigation with guidance from their teacher. Year 13: In the autumn term of the course, students will continue to develop their own Personal Investigation supported by a written essay. Guidance will be given in the form of tutorials and class critiques to enable students the opportunity to discuss and refine their ideas to produce a series of developed outcomes. In term 2, students will receive a selection of starting points from their exam board and will choose one to develop a final project, culminating in a practical exam. This course will suit students that wish to learn and develop photography skills such as exposure, lighting and composition, along with image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop. As well as the digital forms of photography, you will explore traditional film photography and darkroom printing.
Grade 5 in Maths, Grade 5 in English Language, Grade 5 in Art & Design (Fine Art or Graphic Communication) or submission of a portfolio.
