
This course provides a Level 3 introduction to the health and social care sector. It is intended to be studied alongside other subjects such as AAQ, BTEC or A Level programes. Pupils will study four units of work: • Unit 1 Human Lifespan and Development • Unit 2 Human Biology and Health • Unit 3 Health and Social Care Practice Plus, an optional unit selected from: • Unit 4 Health, Policy and Wellbeing • Unit 5 Promoting Health Education • Unit 6 Safe Environments in Health and Social Care • Unit 7 Health Science The qualification is suitable for students interested in careers withing health, social care, early years ad education sections. Students do not need to have previously studied Health & Social Care. It is intended for students who wish to progress into higher education as a pathway to employment. Students must be competent at organising work files and meeting deadlines. Students can progress to a wide range of career and higher education opportunities including degree courses in nursing, midwifery, teacher training and social work when taken with compatible subjects. Other progression routes include further training within employment for example apprenticeships and BTEC Higher National qualifications.
Minimum five GCSE passes (grades 4 or 5) including English Language and Maths. Students must also meet subject specific minimum entry requirements (shown below).
There is two exams to be completed in both Yr 12 and Yr 13 • Unit 1, Unit 2 And two internally assessed assignments (coursework) • Unit 3 and either • Unit 4, 5, 6 or 7
