Course summary

Psychology creates a sense of wonder in anyone who studies it. It is a personal science that explores our understanding of the world, ourselves and others. It is the opportunity to develop a deep insight into human nature and behaviour through knowledge of brain functions, interactions, relationships and the adaptability of people to context, experiences and situations. What will you study? The A level course investigates a variety of approaches to Psychology such as Cognitive, Developmental, Biological and Social Psychology. Appropriate Research Methods will be applied in studies and their effectiveness evaluated. There will also be opportunities to research Biopsychology and Psychopathology. University degress that require or often prefer Psychology include: Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Sports Science, Education, Nursing and Midwifery, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. Possible careers: Psychology is an excellent passport to a number of different occupations including: clinical psychologist, educational psychologist, occupational psychologist, lecturer, forensic psychologist, criminal psychologist, teacher and neuroscientist. It could also lead to: counsellor, human resources manager, advertising/marketing, media, banking and finance.

Entry requirements

Minimum grade 6 in GCSE English Language, Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics and a Grade 5 in GCSE Science
