Course summary
A-Level Computer Science develops understanding of how computers work and how software is designed with a focus on programming . Students explore computer systems, processors, memory, networks, cybersecurity, logic, computational thinking and algorithm design. Programming is a major component, with students developing software skills and completing a practical coding project. The course combines theory, problem-solving and creativity. You would enjoy this course if you have an interest in programming and how computers operate, curiosity about problem-solving and logical thinking, interest in AI, cybersecurity or software development and a desire to build and test real programs. Skills you will need and develop include programming in a high-level language (Python or similar), algorithm design and computational thinking, analytical and logical reasoning an understanding of computer architecture and networks and debugging, testing and project development. Possible career pathways that Computer Science allow students to pursue include careers in software development, Cybersecurity, AI and machine learning, Data science, Computer and Network engineering, and Web and app development. Other subjects that Computer Science complement include Mathematics, Physics, Further Mathematics and Information Technology.
