Pearson Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification BTEC National in Medical Science (Extended Certificate) Course Content Unit 1: Principles of Human Physiology, Anatomy and Pathology The unit will be assessed through a 90-minute external examination in May. Unit 3: Practical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (coursework component) Students will investigate the effect of antimicrobial agents on the growth of microorganisms. Unit 2: Health Issues and Scientific Reporting The unit will be assessed through a two-hour external examination in January. Unit 4: Diseases, Disorders, Treatments and Therapies (coursework component) External assessment accounts for 58% of the overall award with the remaining 42% coming from coursework components that are internally assessed (but externally verified).
