
This course is equivalent to two A Levels. You must choose BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport (Block D) as well. The BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport looks at the principles and practices within the sport, coaching and fitness industry. The course is mainly theoretical; it analyses many aspects of sport and is delivered through a variety of methods, within the classroom and by using the PE facilities. Topics covered: Anatomy and Physiology Fitness programming Professional development in the sports industry Sports leadership Organising sports events Fitness Testing Business, sport and the active leisure industry. Coaching for performance Skill Acquisition This course builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills developed through L2 BTEC Sport although students with a particular interest in PE and Sport can also access the course. Students are expected to participate in sport and play an integral part in the Ludus (extra-curricular) programme. It is possible to progress into Higher Education to study in the following areas: Sport and exercise studies, Physical Education Teaching (both primary and secondary), sport therapy, coaching science, health, sports performance and nutrition, recreation/sports management, leisure management and sport development. There are also opportunities to apply for the armed forces or to seek employment within leisure industries.
Minimum five GCSE passes (grades 4 or 5) including English Language and Maths. Students must also meet subject specific minimum entry requirements (shown below).
Students undertake externally marked exams in anatomy and physiology, fitness testing and programming and investigating business and sport and the active leisure industry, plus six units that are internally marked.
