Course summary

Chemistry at A Level is a two year course; it is split into three broad headings of physical, organic and inorganic chemistry. The course builds on the skills developed and the content covered at GCSE. It is therefore important that students can demonstrate a clear understanding of all GCSE science subjects, in particular Chemistry and Physics, as well as Maths, as much of the course (around 30%) is Maths focused. Students will further develop their practical skills from GCSE, by carrying out 12 independent practicals, including making aspirin, chromatography and titrations, as well as class practicals that are not examined. Students will have the chance to improve their problem solving and deduction skills, as well as explanations of trends and observations made. Students who are analytical and logical should excel at Chemistry A Level.
