Course summary

There has never been a better or more important time to study Politics. This highly topical and relevant subject will attract those with enquiring minds who want to understand the organisations and processes which produce democratic government in the UK and USA. The strengths and weaknesses of both systems will be analysed through detailed study and analysis of relevant case studies from each country. In addition, you will analyse and evaluate the beliefs and values of liberalism, conservatism, socialism and feminism. Course content • Paper One – In Year 12, you will study the component parts of the British Government (i.e. UK Constitution, Parliament and Executive) and key elements of British Politics such as debates on democracy and participation and the electoral process. • Paper Two – In Year 13, you will study the component parts of the US Government and elements of US Politics. As part of this, you will compare this to the UK and analyse similarities and differences between the two countries. • Paper Three – In Year 12 and Year 13, you will examine liberalism, socialism, conservatism and feminism and explore the beliefs and theories of key thinkers within each tradition.
