Medical Science The Pearson Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification (AAQ) BTEC National in Medical Science is a new qualification available for first teaching from September 2025. This course is designed for students aiming to progress to higher education or pursue careers in health and science sectors. Principles of Human Physiology, Anatomy, and Pathology: Focuses on the structure and function of the human body, including common diseases. 2. Health Issues and Scientific Reporting: Explores current health challenges and the methods used to report scientific findings. 3. Practical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases: Provides hands-on experience with microbiological techniques and understanding infectious diseases. 4. Biomedical Science: Covers the scientific study of the biological and physiological aspects of health and disease. Assessment Methods: Assessment is a mix of portfolio work and external examinations: • Year 1: o Principles of Human Physiology, Anatomy, and Pathology: External examination (25% of the total grade). o Practical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases: Portfolio assessment (25% of the total grade). • Year 2: o Health Issues and Scientific Reporting: External examination (34% of the total grade). o Biomedical Science: Portfolio assessment (16% of the total grade).
