Introduction: This A-level is a relevant and rewarding course that provides students with knowledge and skills that are relevant to pursuing not only a career in computer science, but also any engineering or mathematical profession. In addition to developing their knowledge of the principles of computer science, including programming in a variety of languages, students will develop their general problem solving skills and complete a software engineering project in which they will design, develop and test a substantial piece of software. Why study it? The relevance of computer science to all of our lives cannot be overstated. Computer scientists are creating the world that we will all live in and the demand for computer scientists looks only set to grow. This course will give you a deep understanding of how computers work and how we can program them to solve global problems. In addition, the course will help you to develop important skills such as resilience and the ability to think creatively, analytically and innovatively. This subject is for you if... ● You have a passion for computers ● You like to solve problems ● You have a good standard of maths from GCSE ● You like programming or are keen to learn to code Where can it lead you? Careers include: programmer, web designer, IT technician, game developer, digital effects designer for film and TV, computer scientist, software engineer, data scientist. In fact, the skills developed throughout this course, including analysing and solving problems, designing and developing a software project, are heavily in demand in industry and relevant to lots of different careers and future pathways.
