Why study Environmental Science? Environmental Science is an incredibly relevant and up to date subject. New legislation means that industry and the public sector are urgently seeking well-qualified individuals with a background in the subject. Now, more than ever, the world needs environmentally knowledgeable scientists, engineers, architects, politicians, economists, business owners and individuals. Features of the course: You will have the opportunity to gain insights and understanding of how geographical and biological components are interrelated. We study a variety of issues, some large scale such as deforestation, pollution and the loss of biodiversity. Others smaller or more local issues such as the conservation effects around the UK and around Penrith. Environmental Science is a holistic subject with many interconnected systems and processes. A change to one process can affect many other processes over different spatial and temporal scales. Students will develop an understanding of how human society relies upon natural systems for resources and life support systems. An understanding of these systems will be used to propose changes in society that would produce sustainable lifestyles. You will gain practical data collection skills, and the ability to evaluate information, analyse data, problem solving and apply your understanding to real-world contexts
