The AQA A Level PE specification is one of the most well established courses nationwide. Students will sit two examination papers which account for 70% of their final grade. The remaining 30% is achieved from an assessment of their practical performance in a competitive situation as well as an extended piece of written coursework. Successful students will be competing or coaching in their sport on a regular basis. S6C students benefit from a wealth of teaching experience within a very successful department. All sports students become part of the MLP Sport Academies with current dedicated academies in football, rugby and netball. A range of enrichment programmes exist which involve regular opportunities for competitive sport, alongside other opportunities such as the S6C Sports Science Conference and a range of other trips and visits. The majority of our students go on to degree level study of Sports Science, though others progress directly into related employment. Students often describe A Level PE as one of the most challenging but one of the most fulfilling courses that they take. TOPICS STUDIED • APPLIED ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY • SKILL ACQUISITION • SPORT & SOCIETY • EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY • BIOMECHANICAL MOVEMENT • SPORT PSYCHOLOGY • ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN SPORT
