
Students of Art and Design will have opportunities to generate practical work, ideas, and research from primary, secondary, and contextual sources. In the Art department, we will work with a broad range of media and processes including traditional techniques. Students will develop and refine their ideas, presenting their outcomes in creative and imaginative ways. They will explore the interrelationships between art, craft, and design processes, and the context in which they operate.
At least a Grade 6 GCSE Art or Level 2 BTEC Art, Grade 4 in Maths and Grade 5 in English. As well as undertaking Art and achieving grade 6 and above at GCSE, students must also have strong literacy skills. Written elements such as in-depth annotations, evaluations and a final research essay are included as part of the coursework.
Component 1: Develop work for a personal investigation into an idea, issue, concept, or theme supported by written material. This will count for 60% of your total A-level marks. You will also need to produce a 1,500-3,000-word research essay. Component 2: Produce personal work in response to one of eight exciting starting points which will count for 40% of your total A-level marks. (Students submit preparatory studies and practical outcomes).
