It considers the ways language expresses individual identity, attitudes, relationships and the values of society. Key concepts are audience, purpose, mode, genre and context. You will learn to apply different levels of language analysis, using appropriate terminology to discuss a variety of spoken, written and multimodal texts. Non-examination assessment consists of a language investigation and a piece of original writing with an accompanying commentary.
