A Level Music is a demanding but deeply rewarding subject that combines performance, composition and analysis. It will stretch you to explore a broad range of musical styles while developing both your practical and academic skills. At Skinners’, the Music Department is highly active, with concerts and live performances every few weeks. Students benefit from a brand new recording studio and a suite of practice rooms for individual tuition, as well as the chance to perform in a variety of ensembles. Groups include Barbershop, focusing on close harmony; the Brass Ensemble, central to Remembrance Day and Carols on the Lawn; Deaf Leopards, supporting rock and pop bands; a Folk Group learning by ear; Jazz Ensemble; Senior Orchestra; String Ensemble; and the joint Skinners’-TWGGS Chamber Choir, which performs annually at Selwyn College, Cambridge. Students also immerse themselves in major musical theatre productions, in collaboration with the Drama Department. This rich programme of opportunities makes Music A Level an excellent choice for any committed musician.
