Philosophy is a subject that challenges you to think for yourself, question assumptions and analyse ideas with clarity and logic. At A Level you will learn how to construct well-reasoned arguments, evaluate different viewpoints and communicate your ideas effectively, skills that are valuable both in study and in life. Philosophy opens doors to a wide range of careers across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. It is particularly suited to roles in publishing, media, journalism, law, advertising and teaching, but also complements scientific and mathematical disciplines where logical thought and critical analysis are essential. Beyond the classroom, the Sixth Form Philosophy Society meets weekly to explore topics of interest beyond the course. Students present their research to peers, gaining confidence in public speaking and discussion. The department also runs a peer-reviewed journal, THINK, which gives students the chance to write for publication and experience academic life first-hand.
