
WHY THIS COURSE: Students will learn how children learn best through play. They will understand the different areas of development and theoretical perspectives of children’s development. Year 12 work experience must be spent at a childcare setting. There will be opportunities during the 2 years to visit and interact with children and to plan activities and observe children. Unit 1: Children’s development Unit 2: Keeping children safe Unit 3: Play and learning Unit 4: Research and reflective practice in early childhood settings STUDENT PROFILE: You will have a desire to work with children and enjoy helping children to learn new skills. It is essential that you like children and desirable for you to want to work with children.
GENERIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR VOCATIONAL SUBJECTS: Grade 4-9 in GCSE English Language and a merit in a vocational subject SUBJECT SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSE grades at 4-9 including grade 4 or above in English Language
ASSESSMENT: Year 12 Unit 1: Children’s development (examined in Summer) Unit 3: Play and learning (NEA/Coursework submitted in summer) Year 13 Unit 2: Keeping children safe (examined Jan) Unit 4: Research and reflective practice in early childhood settings (NEA/Coursework submitted in summer) There will be an opportunity for any resits of exam in Jan and Summer in year 13
