The Level 3 Qualification in Sports Leadership, is a nationally recognised course designed to develop students’ leadership, organisation and communication skills through sport and physical activity. The course provides a structured pathway for students to become confident leaders capable of planning and delivering inclusive sporting provision. Key Course Details Qualification Level: Level 3 Credits: 12 UCAS Points: 16 Suitable for any student with an interest in sport and developing leadership skills, not just those pursuing academic PE. It provides an inclusive and engaging alternative pathway that supports a wide range of learners. Course Purpose and Value The qualification aligns with national standards for sport and physical activity leadership. It enables students to safely and effectively lead sessions, while developing essential transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, confidence, and responsibility. Students will gain experience in: • Planning, leading and evaluating sports activities • Delivering inclusive sessions to a range of participants • Working safely, including understanding safeguarding and risk assessment • Leading events and supporting wider school sport provision Practical Application and School Impact A key strength of the course is its practical integration within the school environment. Students will deliver and support lunchtime clubs and fixtures, gain real leadership experience within the PE department, and contribute positively to extra-curricular provision. This element will be compulsory, ensuring meaningful application of skills and strengthening the school’s wider sports programme. Assessment Students will be assessed through a variety of methods, including practical observations, written assignments, session planning, and evaluation tasks. Additionally, students must complete: 2 hours leading a sports event and 12 hours leading inclusive sessions to different participant groups.
