
Law affects virtually all aspects of our lives and regulates much of our every day activity. Studying Law gives students an understanding of the role of Law in today’s society and raises their awareness of the rights and responsibilities of individuals. By learning about legal rules and how and why they apply to real life, students also develop their analytical ability, decision making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. All these skills are highly sought after by higher education and employers What will I learn? In year 12, students will spend the first two terms on criminal law, including: Non-fatal offences against the person – assault, battery, ABH, GBH Fatal offences – murder, manslaughter Property offences – theft Defences – self-defence, intoxication, duress and consent In the third term of Year 12 and first term of Year13 students will focus on civil law through a study of negligence. In the second term of Year 13 they will continue to study civil law through contract law.
Assessment will be through examination only. At the end of Year 13 there will be three exams: Paper 1 – Criminal Law (2 hours) Paper 2 – Civil Law – Negligence (2 hours) Paper 3 – Civil Law, Contract (2 hours)
