Course summary

The A Level Drama and Theatre Studies course combines practical exploration of play texts, opportunities for devising theatre and performance of play scripts with analytical and theoretical study of live performance and set texts. You will need to be both academic and creative in your approach to the course, with an open-mindedness towards both traditional theatre styles and practitioners and more contemporary theatre. Throughout the course, we offer a range of theatre visits and opportunities to work with professional theatre makers. We also have visiting theatre companies showcasing workshops and performances.

How you'll be assessed

Component 1: Devising (40%) Devise an original performance piece. Use one key extract from a performance text and a theatre practitioner as stimuli. Component 2: Text in Performance (20%) A group performance of one key extract from a performance text. A monologue or duologue performance from a different performance text. Externally assessed by a visiting examiner. Component 3: Theatre Text in Context (40%) Live theatre evaluation Practical exploration and study of a complete performance text Practical exploration and interpretation of another complete performance text, in light of a chosen theatre practitioner
