This innovative course is designed to allow students to conduct research into an area of real interest. Students will work in a small tutorial group to learn how independent research takes place and begin to piece together a ‘final product’ that could take the form of an academic report or an artefact (a performance, a video documentary, a piece of music or creative writing). Students will learn how to use Harvard referencing, they will develop time-management skills and they will use critical-thinking skills to determine how to drive forward their research.
Completion of the EPQ’s ‘final project’ will be undertaken during the summer between Y12 and Y13 to allow students to balance time between this and other subjects effectively. The course is assessed following the submission of one ‘final product’ (an academic report of 5,000 words or an artefact accompanied by a 1000 word report), a supporting ‘research log’ and one formal presentation.
