
The AQA A-Level Spanish course is both linguistically and culturally rich. Year 1 topics include: · Aspects of Hispanic society – such as family dynamics, changing roles, and the impact of technology · Artistic culture in the Hispanic world – including music, cinema, and traditions · Study of a Spanish-language film, for example, Volver by Pedro Almodóvar Year 2 topics include: · Multiculturalism and immigration in Spanish-speaking countries · Political life and social movements in the Hispanic world · Study of a Spanish-language literary text, for example, La Casa de Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca · An Independent Research Project (IRP) on a cultural, political, or social topic of your choice related to the Spanish-speaking world The course also includes regular grammar and vocabulary development, as well as translation skills (both into and from Spanish).

The course is assessed entirely through examinations at the end of Year 13. Paper 1: Listening, Reading, and Writing · Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes · Worth: 50% of the A-Level · Includes translation exercises and comprehension tasks Paper 2: Writing · Duration: 2 hours · Worth: 20% of the A-Level · Includes two essays: one on the film, one on the book Paper 3: Speaking · Duration: 21–23 minutes · Worth: 30% of the A-Level · Includes a discussion based on a stimulus card and a presentation/conversation on your Independent Research Project
