
The A level French course aims to prepare you for University studies should you wish. It develops all of your language skills as well as your research and independent learning skills and gives you an insight into the language and the culture of Spain. It is a challenging but rewarding course. All skills are assessed at the end of Year 13. All of the language skills are practised in class – listening, reading, speaking and writing – and classes are conducted mainly in French. A range of activities is offered including group and pair work, in-depth grammar practice and use of online resources, independent work and regular assessment. As well as an interest in French, you should have the following qualities: Lots of enthusiasm Determination and resilience Independence and organisation Willingness to have a go! Openness to other points of view You must be willing to learn vocabulary regularly and to prepare texts independently before lessons. Languages open a lot of doors including working within Marketing, Commerce, Teaching, Advertising, Tourism, Translation and Industry to name a few! Paper 1: Listening, Reading and Translations from and into French [40% of A level] Paper 2: Essays on Literature and Film [30% of A level] + Speaking test: Discussion on topics studied at A level as well as a presentation of an Individual Research Project of an aspect of French culture or society.
