The AAQ Level 3 Pearson BTEC National Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care aims to introduce the sector. It is for learners who are interested in learning about the health and social care sector as part of a balanced study programme. It is equivalent in size to one A Level. The qualification supports access to a range of higher education courses, possibly, but not exclusively, in health and social care, if taken alongside further Level 3 qualifications. In the first year, students complete units 1 and 3, and in the second year, units 2 and 5. Students have also gone on to achieve careers in caring for the elderly, nursery workers, and care assistants. The AAQ Level 3 Pearson BTEC National Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care is a two-year course that includes the following modules: Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development. Students will develop and explore a knowledge and understanding of patterns of human growth and development. Unit 2: Human Health and Biology enable students to examine the biological organisation of the human body into cells and tissues. You will develop an understanding of energy in the body and homeostatic mechanisms. Unit 3: In Principles of Health and Social Care Practice, students will examine the values, care approaches, and communication skills used in the health and social care sector. They will explore key concepts including confidentiality, duty of care, and working with vulnerable groups. In Unit 5: Promoting Health Education, students will examine the purpose of health education and how this supports the development of healthy behaviours for society.
