
Core Maths is an additional subject taken alongside three A Level or BTEC subjects. It provides additional UCAS points for university, and skills for employment. It is ideal for those who have achieved a grade 5 or 6 on a higher tier GCSE mathematics and who are not going on to study A Level mathematics. This course is also designed to support the mathematical content of other A Level subjects and those who are looking at university degrees or careers that require higher level mathematical skills. The Level 3 Certificate in Quantitative Reasoning (MEI) has been developed jointly by OCR and Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) to meet the Core Maths requirements. This qualification gives learners the mathematical skills to tackle problems in a variety of authentic situations. It enables learners to strengthen the mathematical knowledge and skills which they have learnt at GCSE so that they can apply them to the problems which they will encounter in further study, life and employment.
Students need to have a good understanding of higher level GCSE Maths to access the course.
2x two hour exams at the end of year 13
