Level 3 Applied Science is aimed at giving students the knowledge and skills with which to move into either Higher Education, apprenticeships or employment in fields which call for expertise across a range of science disciplines. Through this course, students gain both academic understanding in a range of scientific areas but also the skills needed in order to do research and to carry out scientific investigations.
Minimum of a GCSE Grade 5 in Science, Maths and English Language
Assessment for this course comprises of 3 mandatory examined units and 2 optional units which are internally assessed: Module 1: Fundamentals of Science Module 2: Science in Society Module 3: Investigating Science 2 optional units, to be decided, from: • Analytical techniques in Chemistry • Environmental studies • Forensic Biology • Medical Physics The examined units for each assessment are taken at the same time whereas the internally assessed tasks are completed during term time and are marked by the course teachers.
