
Students follow the route of Extended Certificate in Performing arts (equivalent to 1 A-level) This course is for students who enjoy Performing Arts as a whole and have an interest in a range of Performing Arts subjects. The BTEC covers a range of disciplines and looks at the wider context of the Arts. The nature of the BTEC means that the course can be tailored to suit the needs of the student and group. As part of this course, students will study the following mandatory units: Investigating Practitioners’ Work Group Performance Workshop Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance The students then have an optional unit that will be chosen for them by their teacher based on their own development of performing arts. The optional units cover a range of topics such as developing skills in selected styles; developments of drama, musical performance, musical theatre, dance, choreography and all students are given a bespoke pathway to follow for these additional units. This may include: Acting Styles, Musical Theatre Techniques and Improvisation.
Grade 5 in GCSE Drama/Dance or L2M in BTEC Performing Arts, Grade 4 in Maths and Grade 5 in English.
Units are internally and externally assessed. For two of the mandatory units, students are given an external brief to work towards in a set time period - this is set by the exam board. Students will complete four units, of which three are mandatory and two are external. Mandatory content: 83% External assessment: 58%
