Course summary

A level Photography enables students to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of Photography through understanding how an SLR Digital camera works, editing photographs and experimenting/altering images in order to communicate ideas. This course will be chosen by students who want to learn how to use a camera in a technical and creative way, developing their practice and understanding how visual imagery can communicate to multiple audiences. The first term allows students to build up their skills through a series of teacher led workshops and mini projects, exploring Aperture, ISO, long exposure, shutter speed, lighting and composition. They will visit art exhibitions and experience workshops to study the work of present and past photographers, considering multiple genres of photography and target audiences. Students need to be independent and resourceful in finding locations and situations to manage shoots outside of school. Access to their own suitable SLR camera is required. How you'll be assessed

Component 1 The Personal Investigation Independent Project chosen by student which shows development from an initial concept to a final realisation. Supported by written study approximately 3,000 words. Component 2 External Assignment Exam assessment is an externally set assignment which gives a variety of different starting points for students to select one question to respond to. Assessment Component 1 – Portfolio of work (60%) Component 2 – Exam of 15 hours (40%)
