Course summary
A level Graphic Communication enables students to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of graphic communication media, processes and techniques using traditional and new media. Students should choose this subject as a rigorous introduction to the approaches used practically and as areas that are explored in the graphic communications industry. Students will explore drawing for different purposes, in addition to relevant images from art, craft and design from different times. They will demonstrate an understanding of the function, meanings, styles and content of graphic work for the intended audience. Study of typography and concepts will be used in responding to a brief. Areas of study will include communication graphics, illustration, advertising, packaging and branding and interactive media (including website and app design). They will then begin developing independent themes and approaches for their ‘Personal Investigation'.
