Course summary

Mathematics A level is an interesting, enjoyable and challenging course that enables students to study a wide range of topics across both pure and applied modules. Many of the areas studied develop and deepen students’ understanding of work covered at GCSE level, such as algebra and trigonometry. In addition there are also many new concepts that form part of the course, including calculus and logarithms. One of the key elements of the A level course is providing students with the ability to use their mathematics. This is developed through the study of the applied content, which includes statistics and mechanics, enabling the application of mathematical techniques to many relevant stimulating problems. Students will gain a knowledge and understanding of many areas of mathematics and develop excellent problem solving skills. The course provides a thorough and highly valued preparation for further study in Mathematics and related subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Computing.
