The course covers nearly 400 years of British and European History at a time of real change. It allows students to study change, continuity, cause and consequence in this period. The German Unit enables students to study people, politics, the economy, society and ideology. The British Unit enables students to study a transformative period of British history, during which democratically elected government faced a series of challenges, both internally and externally, and British society underwent fundamental change. It also encourages students to reflect on the process of economic and social change and the impact of that change for both governments and the people. The Tudor coursework will investigate key themes such as government, religion, foreign policy, society and the economy across the reigns of Henry VII and Henry VIII, Edward, Mary and Elizabeth I. The ideal graduate is adaptive, responsible and reflective, with high level analytical and problem solving skills – making it a highly regarded academic course by Russell Group universities. History students are taken beyond the curriculum through trips to Berlin; visiting the history department at Queen Mary’s University in London; attending lectures by leading historians and regular relevant film evenings.
